The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There are plenty of prawns and water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: They miss someone very special to them; who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together... Author of this masterpiece: Paul C. Dahm

My beautiful Mr Thai -  you will always hold a special place our hearts.

Mr Thai was one of those 'special' cats that stole my heart from the moment we met.  I remember going to see this gorgeous little red kitten who was about 16 weeks old, I wanted a companion for my chocolate point girl Tia, and brought him home to be part of my family.

The first day he spent hidden under my bed, hiding away and refusing to eat a thing.  I spent the first few days coaxing him out and talking to him, and trying to get him to eat.  The third day I was at my wits end, and sat with him on my lap crying and begging him to eat, I knew at this point if he didn't eat soon he would probably have to go back as he hadn't settled, or there was something seriously wrong with him.

Thankfully, on the fourth day - ravenous as anything, he finished a whole plateful of dinner, and from that moment on we never looked back, he went from a nervous kitten scared of anything and everything to  one of the boldest most loving cats I have ever had the priviledge of being owned by!  Mr Thai never left my side and slept under my duvet every night, he adored fish and prawns.  Originally called Thai, he gained the title Mr as he was worthy of a more grander title, so from Thai he became known as Mr Thai.  Mr Thai loved 'going to the ball' that was our name for going to a cat show, he loved the attention of all the passers by admiring him, he made premier status, and really enjoyed his days out just showing off.  He even went to the supreme cat show, and entertained the judge by rolling onto his back showing off his tummy for a rub, just as she was about to assess him, it was amazing to watch, he was such a big ginger tart!  He got first place that day, I think the flirting with the judge had certainly helped....

In June 2006, Mr Thai was diagnosed with chronic renal failure, with medication and diet we managed to control the effects of the symptoms.  Anyone who has had a cat with renal failure will know of the heartache of not knowing just how much time you have got, so we could only hope for the best.  In February 2007 I knew it was time, and I said 'good bye' to my handsome ginger man, and sent him over the rainbow bridge, I will never forget you my baby, sleep peacefully and watch over the others....

He is Gone You can shed tears that he is gone, Or you can smile because he lived. You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back, Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see him, Or you can be full of the love that you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him and only that he is gone, Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind be empty and turn your back, Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on. Anonymous

If It Should Be If it should be I grow frail and weak And pain prevents my peaceful sleep. Then you must do what must be done When this last battle can't be won. You will be sad, I understand. Selfishness might stay your hand. But on this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship take the test. We've had so many happy years That what's to come can hold no fears. You'd not want me to suffer. So, When the time comes, please let me go. Take me where my needs they'll tend. Only -- stay with me until the end. Hold me firm and speak to me. Until my eyes no longer see. I know, in time, you, too, will see It is a kindness that you do for me. Although my tail it's last has waved, From pain and suffering I've been saved. Do not grieve it should be you. Who must decide this thing to do. We've been so close, we two, these years... Don't let your heart hold any tears. Author Unknown
